An Experience Discovering the Ancient Craft of Fishermen. In the picturesque setting of Cesenatico, a charming fishing village on the coast, an experienced fisherman will guide you through the secrets of this timeless trade! This unique journey takes you into the heart of maritime culture and fishing traditions, intertwining past and present.

DESCRIPTION
Guided by a seasoned fisherman, visitors begin with a stroll along the canal port, where docked fishing boats and busy fishermen bring the fishing industry to life, offering a rare glimpse of fish unloading activities. At the Fish Market, you’ll witness the captivating asta all’orecchio (whispered auction), an ancient method of bidding unique to the Romagna coast. In the Net Tunnel, you can observe the skill of old seafarers as they hand-repair fishing nets—a craft passed down through generations. The experience concludes at the Calisesi Study Center – Fishermen’s Museum, a vibrant, authentic museum preserving the tools and memories donated over the years by local fishermen to the Fishermen’s Cooperative. Here, the history and essence of life at sea are brought to life.

POSSIBILITY TO ADD WORKSHOPS TO THE VISIT:

1. KNOT WORKSHOP
   The itinerary is enriched with a workshop on maritime knots, where participants can try their hand at traditional techniques used by fishermen. Among the knots taught are the “Gassa d’amante”, essential for securing ropes firmly and safely, and the “Savoia knot”, known for its versatility and strength. Guided by the experience of a fisherman, participants will discover the practical and symbolic art of knots—an ancient knowledge that has always accompanied sailors’ lives, creating a direct connection to the world of fishing.
2. NET REPAIR WORKSHOP
   The itinerary includes an even more immersive experience with the net repair workshop, held within the characteristic “Tunnel delle Reti” (Net Tunnel). Here, together with expert fishermen, visitors can learn and practice the ancient art of hand-repairing nets— a skill passed down through generations with patience and precision. In this authentic space, where the craftsmanship tells stories of the sea and tradition, participants will experience firsthand the care and attention required in this timeless profession.
3. FRESH FISH DISCOVERY AND CLEANING WORKSHOP
   The itinerary also includes a workshop focused on discovering fresh Adriatic fish, where participants will learn to identify the main local species, understanding their characteristics, seasonality, and nutritional qualities. Together with the fishermen, visitors will be guided in cleaning the fish. This workshop offers a practical and educational experience, allowing participants to appreciate Adriatic fish from an authentic perspective, deeply rooted in the maritime tradition of Cesenatico.
4. BOAT EXCURSION ON A HISTORIC VESSEL
   Sailing on historic boats with “vele al terzo” (traditional sails), participants will have the opportunity to closely explore the marine flora and fauna, while listening to the stories and curiosities only fishermen can share. This unique journey allows you to explore the sea like a true sailor, in a nostalgic atmosphere that blends culture and nature into an unforgettable experience.
