1st day :
Arrival at the airport in the morning. First stop in Emilia Romagna: Rimini, where you can admire Piero’s fresco “Sigismondo Pandolfo in Prayer in front of Saint Sigismondo” (initiated in 1447) inside the Malatesta Temple, designed by Leon Battista Alberti.
2nd day:
Departure for “The Invisible Landscape” by Piero della Francesca on the hills of the medieval village of San Leo. You’ll have the opportunity to admire the background of Battista Sforza (“Double Portrait of the Dukes of Urbino” preserved at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence) and Saint Jerome and the donor Jerome Amadi (preserved at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Venice). It’s a true open-air museum! Lunch in a typical Osteria in the historic center of San Leo. After lunch transfer to Petrella Guidi, near Sant’Agata Feltria, to visit Piero’s third balcony, from which you can observe almost the entire landscape depicted in “The Baptism of Christ,” preserved at the National Gallery in London.
3rd day:
Transfer to Urbino for a guided visit. In the Gallery of the Ducal Palace, you will find two of Piero della Francesca’s most important works: “Flagellation of Christ” and “Madonna di Senigallia.” Two works of art offering a perfect blend of light, shapes, perspectives, and landscapes that you can appreciate while strolling through the city streets.
4th day:
Meeting with the guide in Urbania, where you can admire Piero’s third Balcony: “The Triumphs” (from the “Double Portrait of the Dukes of Urbino” preserved in Florence at the Uffizi Gallery) and receive a detailed explanation of the invisible landscape. Lunch at a farmhouse serving organic products, located near the balcony, with a tasting of traditional recipes and locally sourced products.
After lunch transfer to Sansepolcro, the birthplace of Piero della Francesca. Inside the town’s civic museum, you can admire the four masterpieces of the maestro: “The Resurrection,” “Polyptych of Mercy,” the frescoes “San Giuliano,” and “San Ludovico.” You’ll also visit the house of Piero della Francesca, the birthplace of the foundation of the same name: a center for studies, a library, and a section for temporary exhibitions.
5th day:
Departure for Monterchi, a distant village where Piero della Francesca left one of the most famous artworks of the 15th century, “Madonna del Parto” (Museum of the Madonna del Parto). In the afternoon, a visit to Arezzo, a truly fascinating Renaissance and medieval city of great value. Guided tour of Piero’s works: the fresco “Stories of the True Cross” (Main Chapel of the Basilica of San Francesco) and “The Magdalene” (Cathedral). After lunch transfer to Perugia to visit the National Gallery of Umbria, where you can find an important witness to Piero’s works: the Polyptych of Sant’Antonio, a wonderful work of art consisting of 9 panels depicting the Virgin with the Child, the saints: Anthony of Padua, John the Baptist, Francis of Assisi, and Elizabeth of Hungary. The apex is occupied by the extraordinary Annunciation, set in a magnificent perspective frame. Departure.
