Waking up in the morning in the warm embrace of sheets that still carry the freshness, surrounded by a silence that echoes with history and nature! The chirping of birds claiming the entire valley as their home, the subtle ticking of the clock in the square, the lady who bought fresh bread and chats with her neighbor…
The hotel is located in the heart of Verucchio, close to the main square. It is built on a network of caves, small caves, and tuffaceous tunnels that characterize the entire historic center. Some of these can be admired by descending to the underlying Mastin Vecchio restaurant or in the exclusive “Grotta del Benessere” (Wellness Cave). Nearby is also the archaeological area that has unearthed necropolises with unique and highly significant artifacts dating back to the Etruscan-Villanovan period from the 9th to the 6th century BCE.
Restaurant
The venue takes its name from the Lord of Rimini, the famous Malatesta known as “Mastin Vecchio”. Adjacent to Verucchio’s square and next to the hotel, it’s a restaurant carved into exposed stone and within medieval arches that were once the property of the Malatesta, noble lords of Rimini, celebrated alongside Paolo and Francesca in Dante’s Divine Comedy.
The Executive Chef Alessandro Mazzoni offers a creative cuisine that merges with the territory’s tradition, so you can savor dishes from the local area or opt for creative cuisine. For example ravioli filled with potatoes and truffles on a bed of porcini, lean sausage cooked in Sangiovese and served with polenta in a terracotta bowl, and pistachio tiles on a white chocolate heart as a dessert. The cuisine aims to highlight the genuine products of the region, such as fossa cheese and Carpegna ham, not forgetting locally sourced items like mushrooms and truffles. Bread, pasta, and desserts are all homemade. The cellar boasts a good selection of labels, and overnight accommodation is available.
